Artist Statement: As we are coming out of a long period of change and uncertainty, I wanted to create a painting that was about growth, opening and renewal. Unfurling is about the moment when it is too hard to stay as we are, and its time to burst into a new state of being. I decided that this viewpoint of a sunflower was unusual as it was depicting the beginning of the flower’s life cycle. Not quite open but breaking free of its former constraints.
