Artist Statement: Culture Shock is a meditation on the disparity between blue collar trades and the artworld. Through the tenuous juxtaposition between the rough metal and the pristine plinth—thought to be an extension of institutions that house high art—on which it is balanced precariously, I wanted to demonstrate the disjointedness that I, as an artist who exists in both these worlds, feel when I cross into either domain from the other.
