Artist Statement: Music and film are often artistic mediums that inspire me. This particular piece was inspired by the film Mother! directed by Darren Aronofsky where a young couple goes through an allegorical journey of love, birth, death and rebirth that mirrors biblical and environmental history narratives. The subtitle is from the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and is a reflection of that song’s optimism and courage to rise up from personal and global challenges. The woman of the artwork is a model of our current planet’s desperate condition. Her basket is all she has collected over the years. Religion and tribalism hang from her weighted frame along with colonial injustices.
