Open Call to Visual Artists

With support from the BC Arts Council, the Peace Liard Regional Arts Council is pleased to carry out the third annual Artist in Residence Program. This program provides a northeast BC artist with a $500 per month stipend for a six-month working period, mentorship from a professional artist, and a solo exhibition for which they are paid a professional CARFAC fee. This program is flexible, with the remote mentorship sessions taking place roughly once per week, although the schedule can be adapted as required.

Cara Guri

This year’s mentor is Cara Guri, a visual artist based in Vancouver, BC. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and has completed a painting residency at Columbia University. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Takao Tanabe Scholarship, the Brissenden Scholarship, and the Bishop’s Undergraduate Prize in Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited in Canada and New York, NY. Learn more about Cara’s practice here. Watch her artist talk here.

The Artist in Residence program supports any artist residing in northeast BC or a visual artist who is a member of an arts council supported by the PLRAC in developing and creating a body of work for a professionally curated exhibition. Artists must be Canadian Citizens, First Nations, or Landed Immigrants (and able to work within Canada). The Artist in Residence is selected by two jurors to be mentored by a professional artist from outside the region.
