About the 39th annual Regional Juried Art Exhibit

Held annually, the Regional Juried Art Exhibit provides an opportunity for regional artists to exhibit their work throughout the region. Award-winning works of art are chosen by the jurors and include Distinguished Representational Award, Distinguished Conceptual Award, Distinguished Three-Dimension Award, 9 Chosen Awards, Honorable Mentions, and a Toni Onley Artists’ Project Scholarship (sponsored by Island Mountain Arts). With the sponsorship of the BC Arts Council, Peace River Regional District, Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, Ovintiv, Island Mountain Arts, and volunteers provided by the local arts councils, the Regional Juried Art Exhibit sees growth in the number and quality of the art being exhibited every year.

Criteria

  • All mediums, sizes, and forms of work will be accepted.
  • Open to all artists in the Peace-Liard region or artists represented through a local arts council and including those who are arts administrators and PLRAC Board Members.
  • All artists who submit to the RJAE must stay at arm’s length to the jurors.
  • Only original artwork is eligible. No copies from magazines, mechanical reproductions, kits or commercial molds.
  • Works previously entered in the Peace Liard Regional Juried Art Exhibit are ineligible.
  • Work must have been completed after January 2018.
  • Limit of THREE entries per artist.
  • Entry fees are $10 per entry.

Friday May 7, 2021 – Virtual Opening—7 pm (Details TBA)

Saturday May 8, 2021 – Artists Walk Through 10am-12pm (Details TBA)

 Saturday May 8, 2021 – Juror’s Artist Talks 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm (Details TBA)

All submissions to the 2021 RJAE must include the following:

1. Entry Fee

A non-refundable entry fee of $10 (per piece) can be paid by cheque (payable to Peace Liard Regional Arts Council) mailed to Box 27, Rolla, BC V0C 2G0, Interac® e-Transfer to edplrac@gmail.com or by PayPal on the PLRAC website www.peaceliardarts.org .

Artists can submit up to three pieces of artwork.
 
 

2. Digital Images for Adjudication and Online Exhibition

Artists must submit images by email to edplrac@gmail.com. Images should include depictions of the entire piece as well as details of the work.

Artists can submit up to three images of each artwork.

3. Submission of Registration Form

Registration forms can be mailed to Peace Liard Regional Arts Council (PLRAC), Box 27, Rolla, BC V0C 2G0 or submitted by email attachment to edplrac@gmail.com . This year, we strongly encourage artists to submit their registration form electronically.

Meet the Jurors for the 2021 RJAE

Manar Abo Touk

Manar Abo Touk is a Syrian-Canadian Curator who specializes in international contemporary art with a focus on Canadian and Middle Eastern Art. She has an MA in Museum and Gallery Studies from Kingston University London, UK and a BA in History and Theory of Arts and Arts Administration from the University of Ottawa. Manar’s career includes work at the Canadian War Museum and Studio Sixty-Six Gallery in Ottawa, aluCine Latin Film+Media Arts Festival in Toronto, and she was the Arts Manager and Curator at Al Riwaq Art Space in the Kingdom of Bahrain. She is currently the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie in Alberta. Manar is fluent in English and Arabic. “My curatorial practice looks at ideas, stories, and artists that encourage diversity, artistic experimentation, and new interpretations of art and society. My role allows me to tell important stories through art exhibitions and to create an experience that aims at making a connection between the art and the public.”

 

Michelle Sound

Michelle Sound is a Cree and Métis artist and educator. She is a member of Wapsewsipi/Swan River First Nation in Northern Alberta and was born and raised in Coast Salish territory(Vancouver BC). She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Simon Fraser University, School for the Contemporary Arts, and a Master of Applied Arts from Emily Carr University Art + Design. Michelle is currently an Indigenous Advisor at Douglas College. She has exhibited her artwork in Pushing Boundaries; Contemporary Indigenous Art (N Van Arts Council); Moving Throughlines (Seymour Art Gallery); and Winter Pandemic, (SoLA Contemporary Los Angeles). Public art pieces include a utility box art wrap for the City of Vancouver and a painted mural exhibition in Ottawa-2018 nākateyimisowin/Taking Care of Oneself, Curated by Joi Arcand.
