We are so excited to host an in-person opening of the 2021 Wild Words North Writing Festival at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery. This opening will feature three of the Peace Liard Five, a group of northeast BC musicians who, through a Regional Development Grant provided by the Peace Liard Regional Arts Council, recently recorded some of their songs for Theresa Gladue’s The Bannock Hour and Theresa’s Country Classics,. This opening event will be hosted by the inimitable Theresa Gladue.
Peace Liard Five
Paul Brent is from Farmington BC. Paul enjoys entertaining people and watching them smile and interact while the show goes on. He has been performing and hosting karaoke at venues across northeast BC for over 25 years. He is also known as an event emcee and vocal promoter.
Serena Brent was born and raised in the Fort Nelson area. She has called Farmington home for the past 18 years, raising a small family. She has been singing for most of her life and she was given opportunities to travel around the province of BC and Alberta singing classical music. Now she only sings for family and friends.
Penny Dumais was born and raised in Dawson Creek, and has been playing music for most of her life. She started singing when she was four yrs old. She learned songs by listening to the record player over and over again. Although she didn’t know how to read or write, she could memorize the lyrics to the songs. When she was 12 or 13 she learned how to play guitar from her mom. Five years ago she was taught by a wonderful friend how to play the fiddle.
Shelley (Sinclair/ Calahaisen) Supernant was born in Dawson Creek. She has two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. She got her love for music from her father’s side of the family. Her late brother Terry inspired her to sing. He’d say, “I’ll play guitar and you sing.” This gave her the confidence to keep singing.
Host Theresa Gladue is one of northeast BC’s most vibrant and supportive community builders. For anyone living in this region, Theresa needs no introduction. She’s an icon.
