2nd Annual Youth Art Exhibit Information

The PLRAC will be partnering with the Fort St. John Community Arts Council and Peace Gallery North  to host the 37th Regional Juried Art Exhibit in 2019 (Opening Night is April 5, 2019 at Peace Gallery North). This prestigious event provides emerging and seasoned artists with the opportunity to exhibit their artwork and  network with fellow artists within the Peace River and the Northern Rockies regions of British Columbia. Jurors for the 2019 show will be announced soon.

Dates to Remember:

Registration Deadline: Monday March 18, 2019

Delivery Deadline: Artwork will be accepted starting Tuesday March 26, 2019 to the DEADLINE of 5 pm on Tuesday April 2, 2019 and can be dropped off at Peace Gallery North. Submissions must be adequately packaged and clearly labeled. Insurance coverage is the responsibility of the Artist.

Meet the Jurors for the 2019 RJAE

Asinnajaq is an Inuit visual artist, filmmaker and writer based in Montreal. Asinnajaq’s practice is grounded in research and collaboration, which includes working with other artists, friends and family. In 2016 she worked with the National Film Board of Canada’s archive to source historical and contemporary Inuit films and colonial representations of Inuit in film. The footage she pulled is included in her short film Three Thousand. The film was nominated for Best Short Documentary at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. She was recently selected as one of the curators for the 2019 Venice Biennale.

Genevieve Robertson is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in environmental studies. She holds an MFA from Emily Carr University (2016) and a BFA from NSCAD University (2009), and presently serves as the Executive Director at Oxygen Art Centre in Nelson, British Columbia. Through working with various collaborators and artist-run organizations, Genevieve has organized and curated several exhibitions and symposia, most recently Wayfinding: Identity and the Kootenays, a Juried Emerging Artists Exhibition at Oxygen Art Centre (2018); and River Arts: Reimagining the Columbia Across Bordersa Symposium at Selkirk College (2018). She has exhibited her work in group and solo exhibitions internationally, in venues including the Libby Leshgold Gallery (Vancouver), the Pensacola Museum (USA), the Touchstones Museum (Nelson), Roll-Up Gallery (Portland), Or Gallery, Vancouver), the Nanaimo Art Gallery, the New Gallery (Calgary), the Walter Philips Gallery (Banff), and Access Gallery (Vancouver).

About the Regional Juried Art Exhibit
Held annually at one of the five PLRAC member locations, the Regional Juried Art Exhibit provides an opportunity for regional artists to exhibit their work throughout the region. Award winning works of art are chosen by the jurors and include a Distinguished Award, a Recognition Award, a Most Experimental Award, 9 Chosen Awards, Honorable Mentions, and a Toni Onley Artists’ Project Scholarship (Island Mountain Arts).

With the sponsorship of the BC Arts Council, Peace River Regional District, Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, Encana, Island Mountain Arts and volunteers provided by the local arts council, the Regional Juried Art Exhibit sees growth in the number and quality of the art being exhibited every year.
