Artist Statement: I was six weeks old when the American and British Allied Forces firebombed Solingen on Nov. 4th 1944 dumping 5000 tons of high explosives and 800 tons of incendiary bombs on the town during a 24 hour offensive. 1200 fires raged and 20,000 homeless people were evacuated to East Germany, including myself. What we didn’t know, was that the Russian Army was waiting for us in the East. BBC announced that “Solingen, the heart of the German steel goods industry, is a dead city.”
