Artist Statement: This piece plays off of the title of a Stan Roger’s song, “Tiny Fish for Japan.” The themes here are climate disasters, our broken planetary foundation, and the leadership (capping crown) that leads into or out of progress. All of the plastic caps (minus the metal crowning one) were collected along Grant’s Bay on Western Vancouver Island. They may not all be from across the Pacific, but feasibly some are. The global world is so much more connected now that we all have a part to play in making it a cleaner, happier place. Ruth Ozeki’s novel, Tales for the Time Being was also an inspiration for this piece.
